As mentioned in my previous post, I am planning to spend some time diving back into reading and literature this year. De-stressing this winter has involved a lot of watching and rewatching some of my favourite televisions shows and movies. The past few weeks it has been Gilmore Girls. It’s been nice to take a trip back to the early 2000’s before everything went screaming off a cliff.
And, as I always have a stack of books at hand, I thought, why not try to read some of the books mentioned in the show? A little bit of research later, and I discovered a whole fan created reading challenge listing all 339 titles mentioned in the 7 season series. Now, there are several sites out there that list all of the books, but I like the idea of being able to check off the books I read as I go, so the one that offered the minimum of trouble when diving in was this page from Listchallenges.com*
Now, I have no illusions that I will finish this list this year. Likely not even in five years, but I thought I would give it a go anyhow, and if I manage to hit 300, I will be immensely proud of myself. Many of the volumes on this list are already on my bookshelf, and I think this challenge may give me the push I need to get back to reading them. I am currently in the middle of both Rebecca and the Wizard of Oz (for my kids), and I think from there I will jump into one of the many Jane Austen novels listed.
While I would have liked to have had more of these checked off before I started, I am pretty happy to have a list of classic works at my fingertips.
Care to give a ridiculously over the top reading challenge a go this summer? How many were you able to check off before you began?
